The Seaton Lane Inn is an ideal base from which to explore the attractions of the North East – from the local delights of the vastly improved County Durham coastline, where industrial waste has been cleared to reveal miles of delightful countryside and a seascape that extends, on a clear day, far down the North Yorkshire coast – to the charms and dramatic coastal scenery and countryside of Northumberland.
The comfortable inn is well placed for visits to historic Durham City and its cathedral, probably the most magnificent Norman building in Europe, where you can enjoy the riverside, the winding streets, shops and pubs, some of which have changed little in hundreds of years.
Closer to home, Sunderland has the Stadium of Light and Premiership football, an industrial past recalled at the city’s National Glass Centre, as well as many shops and a few pubs where time stands still.
Go-karting, paintballing, golf courses and angling are a few of the pursuits available just a few minutes away from the Seaton.
A trip to nearby Tyneside takes you to the “party city” of Newcastle, now firmly linked to its partner Gateshead, just across the graceful arc of the Millennium Bridge, and home to its own attractions, including the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and the region’s (and one of the country’s) most spectacular music venues, the Gateshead Sage.
